I’m trying to continue having Amarok 1.4.10 running on newer KDE4 systems. I got tired of 2x installs messing with my (1.x) player so I changed the name and the config filenames to match. So you can have Amarok 1 or 2 installed and this won’t mess with it. I applied patches I found around the net, some bug fixes, a security fix from Debian and a Lastfm cover grabber to replace Amazon.

I am debating removing broken pieces – though this goes against my desire to keep it running as it is – that are severely broken and unlikely to be fixed. The first big one is Magnatune – you can’t buy the music anymore as they disabled external apps.

Ausprobiert habe ich ihn noch nicht… ;)

Exaile: Der Wolf im Python-Pelz

Wer unter Gnome, Xfce etc. einen Player mit dem Look and Feel von Amarok 1.4 haben möchte, ohne gleich die ganzen KDE-Libs zu installieren, kann sich Exaile installieren.

Exaile ist ein in Python geschriebener Musikmanager mit einem Aufbau ähnlich dem von Amarok 1.4.

Minirok 2.0, der simple Amarok

Auf der Suche nach einfachen Musikplayern für KDE 4 bin ich auf Minirok gestoßen. Da ich mit dem Audioplayer meiner Wahl nur Musikstücke hören möchte, ist mir Amarok viel zu überladen (Wikipediaanbindung etc.)Die QT4-Anwendung Juk gefällt mir vom look and feel nicht besonderlich. Beim durchsuchen der Pakete bin ich auf Minirok 2.0 aufmerksam geworden.

Ich hab ihn jetzt mal installiert und bin begeistert, das look and feel ist ählich wie von Amarok, die GUI sehr übersichtlich und aufgeräumt. Playlist und Sammlung funktionert super, sogar die Belegung von Shortcuts sind möglich. Meinem subjektiven Eindruck nach, wird die Datenbank auch schneller durchsucht. Auf der Homepage der Software steht sogar, dass man Lastfm-Anbindung hat. Ich werd mir das heute Abend auf jeden Fall mal genauer ansehen. :-)
